Dear sandeep,
question is
x + y^2 = 17
17 > y + x^2 > 14
here x and y are real numbers greater than 1
then y-x will be
Check a case in which x=3.31 and y=3.7
so x + y^2 = 17
and y + x^2 = 3.7 + (3.31)^2 = 14.6561
similarly many other cases

Dear Admin,

Could you please share with us any values of x & y from the real set which satisfies all the conditions. Apologies but I tried my best but I am unable to find any such values of x & y from the real set.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

Dear SANDEEP, DIPIN and INDER
in this question x and y are real numbers not integers, so 17 > y + x^2 > 14 is possible for any real set.
and INDER you wrote in your comment that

In today's puzzle,

one condition is

17 > y + x^2 > 14

it means
17>14
which is not correct.

Why 17 is not greater than 14. As far as we know 17 is greater than 14
Please check the admin's answer once again
Thanks

I think inder and sandeep are right.

no value ( even imaginary ) of x and y can satisfy this condition

17 > y + x^2 > 14

Hi Inder,
Agree with you...but there are 10 different options to choose and at least one of them I could see is still valid.

Cannot tell you the exact answer though :)

The solution to 15-Dec-2011 says minimum number of intersection points of 5 lines is 1. Please help me understand this.

According to me, If no two pair of lines are parallel, then every pair must intersect at some point. Hence the minimum (and obviously,, the maximum also) number of intersection points has to be 10.

Please tell me where i am wrong in my calculation. Can anyone tell me, how to draw 5 lines, which intersect only at a single point? Thanks :)

For (6-12-20110 puzzle) velocities in m/s are 18*5/18 = 5 m/s and 90*5/18 = 25 m/s
and 2 km = 2000 m
so acceleration = 30*20/2*2000 = 0.15
=(m/s*m/s)/m
=m/s^2
Answer should be in m/s^2 unit
but opt 10 is none of these. opt 10 only create big confusion on this Question.

In today's puzzle
The formula for finding the acceleration of the car is
a = (product of sum and difference of velocities)/2(total distance)
In a journey of 2 km, initial and final velocities of the car are 18 km/hr and 90 km/hr respectively. Calculate the acceleration.

I think Units of the accelration in given options are m/s due to printing mistake otherwise it should be m/sec ^2.

Dear Admin,
Pls check sol for thursday puzzle

6 boys and 7 girls are available for a counselling. In how many ways, we can arrange them in a row, if middlest one is a boy and girls are sat on both the corners.

Answer accepted is 126*10! which may not be correct.
As there are 7 girls . They can be selectede in group of two in 21 ways.
In each group, these 2 girls can be placed on two corners in 2 ways.

6 ways for boy at centre
2* 21 ways for girls at corners
10! ways for remaining 10 children at other 10 places.
So total arrangements are 2* 6*21*10!= 252*10!...option 6

Pls correct me if I am wrong.

@BALAKUMARAN : At first u should read yhe puzzle carefully...When the American time is 16.30 then Indian time should be (16.30+5.30)=22.00. Here we should add the time not subtruct. Because in the problem it is clearly mentioned that the time diff. between India & America is +5.30 not -5.30. If in the problem there mentioned that the time diff. between America & India is +5.30 then we should subtract the time, one thing also why u can mix up between time format?...got it...Is it helpfull to you plz reply...

@TAMALIKA : The ans should be D) Rs. 9000

Because A do the business for 12 months and B do the business for 7 months.
Let B contribute Rs. x.
so, 3500*12 : 7x = 2 : 3
=> x =(3500*12*3)/(7*2) = 9000....
If it is helpfull to you plz reply...
