For yesterday's puzzle there is another short and easy method.
Difference of speeds =75-60=15Kmph
With an extra speed of 15Kmph faster train travelled 18Km(9+9) more.
Hence 15:18=75:d
d=75*18/15=90Km
The distance between the stations is 90-9(Returned distance)=81Km

Sorry frnds,
I am a little busy with my job yesterday. I did not met with your discussion.
In my opinion I went like this. Let GoodfriDAY is GoodfriX (as DAY considered as a Unit let X)
Now the combinations are 8!/2!
Now let us consider DAY(X) Combinations are=3!
So the result is 8!*3!/2!
Now D Can be replaced with another D. So there is a duplicy with D.
Hence I thought the result is =8!*3!/(2!*2!)=60480.

Let's say the word is - G O O' D F R I D' A Y

If we replace O with O' then the word will remain same, i.e. Goodfriday
In this case, the new word is same as the original word. That's why we divided 8 factorial by 2.

But if we want to replace D with D', we are bound to replace the whole 'DAY' unit with D. We get
Goo-day-frid or
Goo-dya-frid or
Goo-ayd-frid or
Goo-ady-frid or
Goo-yda-frid or
Goo-yad-frid
As you can see that duplicacy of D does not necessarily points to duplicacy of a word. These all words are different and none of them is same as original word. So they all will be counted.

Hope this helps.

Mind blowing observation Mr. GSK and Ms. Dimple.

I think that the right answer will be 120960 - 5040 = 115920

[Since D-AYD will be a part of only 2520 (360 combo of 6 letters * 7 different positions of this whole unit) combinations. Same goes for D-YAD]

Is this right?

Dear Admin
In yesterday's Puzzle inthe word GOODFRIDAY if we consider DAY as single one it can be formed with the letter D repeated twice. So the combinations are (8!*3!/2!*2!) as O is also repeated twice. So the total number of ways are 60480.
Please check the solution once.
Thanking you.

Dimple   3 years ago
It will not be exactly half of 120960 as duplicacy of letter D will affect combinations where D of GOOD is coming just before or after combinations of DAY like
D-DAY
D-DYA
(D-AYD)
D-ADY
(D-YAD)
out of these
DAYD and DYAD will be repated when following combinations are considered :-
(DAY-D)
(DYA-D)
AYD-D
ADY-D
YAD-D
YDA-D
D-YDA

Please check.
So it will lead to 'None of the above ' option. 😟

Dear Admin
In yesterday's (15-4-22) Puzzle in the word GOOD FRIDAY two letters are repeated twice. One is O another is D. If we consider Day as one letter that Day can be formed 3!/2! and Goodfri DAY as (8!/2!)*(3!/2!)=60480
60480 is the answer. Please check once.

In Yesterday's puzzle is it possible to form a hexagon whose angles are in A.P and the common difference is twice of its smallest angle? While finding the angles one of its angle comes as 180Β° which is a straight angle. So that it is not a hexagon. It becomes as Pentagon.
