Karthika - Score depends on your points you score by attempting Today's puzzle. The more you points you get the higher would be your score.
From Monday To Friday a puzzle is asked at 11 AM, you can attempt the question before 12 in midnight. if you answer the question correctly you get points (15 points). If you answer the question correctly between 11.00 AM to 11.10 AM you will get bonus points ranging between 1 to 5 depending on how quickly you have answer the puzzle. On any day a user can score at max 20 points, 15 for correct answer + 5 bonus points if he answer it correctly within 1 minute (i.e. before 11:01 AM)

For the puzzle dated 12/09/2013, please consider the following points. :-
1) As mention by yourself, no condition was given.
2)If x is more than 3/2 is the condition, then the number inside the square root can not be negative.
3) But, since there was no such criteria for x, the number inside the square root can be -1 also.
4) Hence x = 1 or x = 4.

Sir, the question is
sqrt(2x^2-2x+1)-2x+3=0.....(1)
We cant solve it directly we have to square
both sides
2x^2-2x+1=4x^2-12x+9.....(2)
to get the ans 1 and 4.
Since we get the values from eq(2)
So we can check by putting it only in eq(2).
Since we cant get the values from eq(1) so we cant
consider it.

for the puzzle dated 12/09/13 ,after solving
sqrt(2x^2-2x+1)=2x-3
we get two answers,i.e. x=1 and x=4.
now if we substitute x=1 in L.H.S. we get
sqrt(1) which can be equal to -1 or 1.
After substituting x=1 in R.H.S. we get -1, hence
x=1 is also a correct answer apart from x=4.
Therefore option no. 3 is the correct answer.

at x=1
sqrt(2-2+1)=2-3
sqrt(1)=-1
square both side
1=1

at x=4
sqrt(32-8+1)=8-3
sqrt(25)=5
so ans is x= 1,4

Please check, Today's puzzle solution and answer for 13/9/2013 may be wrong.

Correct option may be 3.
since, sqrt(1) may be +1 or -1
So, in this case the even if we put x=1, then both sides will be equal to -1 in one case. Please let me know the exact reason.
