The ratio of number of balls in bags x, y is 2: 3. Five balls are taken, from bag y and are dropped in bag x. Number of balls are equal in each bag: now. Number of balls in each bag now is?

a) 20 b) 30
Reply Like? Yes (2) | No
Devendra Marghade   9 years ago
25

If initially there were 2a & 3a balls in bag x and bag y respectively, then
3a-5=2a+5
a=10
So number of balls in each bag now=3a-5 or 2a+5 =25

Q: 3 shirts cost 1000 on purchasing of 3 shirts shop keeper allows one shirt for free of cost. what percent of discount was allowed ? I NEED SHORTCUT METHOD
Reply Like? Yes (2) | No
Devendra Marghade   9 years ago
33.33%

On purchasing of 3 shirt, discount equivalent to one shirt=1000/3 is given, so % discount allowed=100*(1000/3)/1000=33.33
Like? Yes (1) | No
Rishu   9 years ago
25%

mp of 3 shirts=1000
mp of 1 shirt=1000/3
sp of 4 shirts=1000
sp of 1 shirt=1000/4=250
% discount=[(mp-sp)*100]/mp=[(1000/3-250)*100]/(1000/3)=25%

Q: the no of toffees shared among A,B,C are in the ration 2:3:4. they exchanged the toffees in different ways among themselves and finally the ratio of no of toffees with them was 5:8:23. if c got 35 more toffees through these exchanges, how many toffees does A have now?

a) 25 b) 35
Reply Like? Yes (2) | No
Rishu   9 years ago
a) 25

let total number of toffees be T
T=2x+3x+4x=9x.....(1)
also
T=5y+8y+23y=36y.....(2)
according to question:
23y-4x=35
x=(23y-35)/4.....(3)
also from (1) & (2),
9x=36y
x=4y.....(4)
from(3) & (4)
4y=(23y-35)/4
16y=23y-35
7y=35
y=5

number of toffees that A have after exchanges=5*5=25

b) 6.25% loss

let cp be x
then mp=x+0.25x=1.25x
sp=1.25x-0.25*1.25x=0.9375x
loss=x-0.9375x=0.0625x
loss%=(0.0625x/x)*100=6.25%

Q: The internal and external diameter of a hemispherical bowl are 12 cm and 10 cm respectively. The cost of painting the vessel all over @ Rs.0.07/cm² is

A) 29.26 B) 28.26
Reply Like? Yes (1) | No
Devendra Marghade   9 years ago
A) 29.26

Surface area of hemisphere=2*Pi*radius^2
Here outer radius is R=12/2=6 cm. and inner radius r=10/2=5 cm.
So inner & outer surface area of hemisphere=2*Pi*(R^2+r^2)=2*(22/7)*(36+25)=383.428 cm^2
As hemisphere with thickness will also have surface area along the circular base=Pi*(R^2-r^2)
=(22/7)*(36-25)=(22/7)*11=34.571 cm^2
So total surface area of hemisphere to be painted=383.428+34.571=418 cm^2
Cost of painting @ Rs 0.07/cm^2= 418*0.07=29.26 Rs.

Q: A factory increased its production of three wheelers from 80000 into the year 1996 to 92610 in 1999. Find the annual rate of growth of production of three wheelers.

a) 5% b) 6%
Reply Like? Yes (1) | No
Devendra Marghade   9 years ago
a) 5%

If % rate of growth per year=r, then 80000[1+(r/100)]^3 =92610
1+(r/100)=Cube root(9261/ 8000)=21/20 ,r=100/20=5

Q: Two trains start travelling on the same track towards each other. If 15 minutes before colliding the trains are 55 kms away and speed of one of the trains is 120 kmph, find the speed of the other train.?

a) 100 kmph b) 120 kmph
Reply Like? Yes (1) | No
Rishu   9 years ago
100 kmph

let speed of the other train be x kmph
since the two trains are travelling towards each other so relative speed between them=
(speed of first train)+(speed of second train)=(x+120) kmph
according to question:
55/(x+120)=15/60.....(since time is in minutes)
3300=15x+1800
15x=1500
x=100

Q: Find the sum of the first 40 terms of the series 12 - 22 + 33 - 42 + ......

a) 820 b) -820 c) 870 d) -870
Reply Like? Yes (1) | No
Rishu   9 years ago
b) -820

the whole series is like below:
Sn=12-22+33-42+45-62+66-82+78-120+99-122+111-142+132-162+144-182+165-202+.....
the above series consists of three independent series:
(1) it starts from 12 with a common difference of 33 and has 10 terms
Sn1=12+45+78+111+.....=(10/2)*(2*12+(10-1)*33)=1605
(2) it starts from -22 with a common difference of -20 and has 20 terms
Sn2=-22-42-62-82-.....=(20/2)*(-22*2+(20-1)*(-20))=-4240
(3) it starts from 33 with a common difference of 33 and has 10 terms
Sn3=33+66+99+132+.....=(10/2)*(2*33+(10-1)*33)=1815

thus, Sn=Sn1+Sn2+Sn3=1605-4240+1815=-820
