at 2 km/hr faster than the thief, after how much time police will be able to catch the thief?

relative distance = 200m
relative speed = 2km/h = 2*10/36 m/s
time taken to catch = 200/(20/36) = 200*36/20 = 360sec = 6min

Let the distance travelled by thief before being caught be x km
speed of theif = y km/hr
time = x/y ...............(i)
then distance of police = (x + 0.2) km
speed of police = (y + 2) km/hr
time = (x + 0.2)/(y + 2) ..................(ii)
putting (i) and (ii) equal, we get
x/y = (x + 0.2)/(y + 2)
x/y = 0.1 hr = 0.1 * 60 = 6 minutes.

23. On selling a bat at 5/7th of its marked price, the store earns 15% profit. What is the profit earned if it is sold at marked price?

61%

If marked price=x, then 5x/7 is 115% of the actual cost,so x=115*x/(5x/7)=161 of the actual cost.
Hence profit earned=61%.

7 & 47/79 days

Working together their 1 day work=(1/15)+(1/25)+(1/40)=79/600
So they will finish the work in 600/79 or 7 47/79 days
