Hii,

There are 100 men in town. Out of which 85% were married, 70% have a
phone, 75% own a car, 80% own
a house. What is the maximum number of people who are married, own a
phone, own a car and own a house ?
Reply Like? Yes | No
KESHAV MANDAL   6 years ago
>% not married 15
>% no phone 30
>% no car 25
>% no house 20
>so 15 +30+25+20=90
>so 100-90=10 min with phone,car,house,married and house
>now they could overlap but since minimum possible asked so 10.I think
>am right.

(cos5x+ cos4x )/(1 - 2cos2x)

= 2*cos(9x/2)*cos(x/2) / (3 - 4cos^2x)

= -2cosx*cos(9x/2)*cos(x/2) / cos3x

i think its itegration can't be evaluated or can be in terms of inverse hyperbolic fns
is the qn right??

ya que is right it think cos5x or cos4x is to be argest like cos5x = cos3x + cos2x .....this make the solution easy can u try one more time ?????

Dear Rakesh ,
I am again in confussion please slove it as early as possible

x^1/2 + y = 7
x + y^1/2 = 11

prove that x = 9 and y = 4
Reply Like? Yes (5) | No
RAKESH   8 years ago
√x + y = 7
x + √y = 11

√x + y = 7
=> x = (7-y)^2 = 49 + y^2 - 14y

x + √y = 11
=> y = (11-x)^2
=> y = (11 - 49 - y^2 + 14y)^2
=> y = (y^2 -14y +38)^2
=> y = y^4 + 196y^2 + 1444 -28y^3 -1064y + 76y^2
=> y^4 - 28y^3 + 272y^2 - 1065y + 1444 = 0
at y=4, above eqn satisfies
=> (y-4)*(y^3 -------) = 0
=> y = 4
so, x = 9
Like? Yes | No (2)
Akanksha Mishra   8 years ago
NO Rakesh we have to prove that x= 9 and y=4 ....
we can't satisfy any equation to put the value of x and y...
.imagine we don't know the original value of x and y ,now prove that
Like? Yes | No
RAKESH   8 years ago
for ex
we have to solve x^5 + x - 2 = 0
here we see that at x = 1 , above eqn satisfies
so, from remainder theorem, (x-1) is a factor of the eqn
now divide x^5 + x - 2 by (x-1)
=> (x-1)*(x^4 ---some terms) = 0
=> x = 1
the same thing i have done in the ans.

otherwise
x^1/2 + y = 7
x + y^1/2 = 11

let x = a^2 & y = b^2

a + b^2 = 7 & a^2 + b = 11
subtract
(a^2-b^2)+(b-a) = 4
=> (a-b)(a+b-1) = 4 = 1*4 = 2*2 = 4*1 (for integral values)

if a-b = 1 , a+b-1 = 4 => a = 3, b = 2
if a-b = 2 , a+b-1 = 2 => a = 5/2 , b = 1/2 doesn't satisfy eqn
if a-b = 4 , a+b-1 = 1 => a = 3 , b = 2

so, a = 3 , b = 2
=> x = 9 , y = 4

Find the maximum slope of the curve
f(x) = 2x + 3x^2 - x^3 - 27
Can u suggest me y are we taking f''(x) = 0 and when should we take three step f'''(x) plz clarify the concept i'm confused ...
Reply Like? Yes (1) | No
Anurag Kumar Singh   8 years ago
Hi Akanksha,

f'(x) = -3x^2 + 6x + 2
now for slope of f(x) to be maximum, the value of f'(x) must me maximum.
so, f'(x) is a quadratic equation with curve bent downwards. So, the local maxima will be the global also.
now, calc f''(x) = 0.
you get the point of global maxima and hence the ans.....

slope of f(x) is maximum at x = 5.

plz tell me if not understood.

f(x) = 2x + 3x^2 - x^3 - 27

to find slope of a function f(x) find f'(x)
slope = f'(x) = 2 + 6x - 3x^2 = g(x) let

now we have to find maxm of g(x)
g'(x)= 0 gives the point of maxm/minm
if g''(x) > 0 then g(x) has mimm
if g''(x) < 0 then g(x) has maxm

f''(x) = (6 - 6x) = 0 => x = 1

f'''(x) = -6 < 0 => f'(x) has a maxm at x = 1

maxm slope = f'(1)= 2 + 6 - 3 = 5

A ladder rests against a wall at angle A to the horizontal,if foot is pulled away from the wall through a distance 'a' so that it slides a distance b down the wall making an angle B with the horizontal
show that
a/b = cosA - cosB/SinB - SinA
Reply Like? Yes (2) | No
Syed Faizan Haider   9 years ago
let l be the length of ladder then l=(x^2+y^2)
after pulling,disatances will be (x+a)& (y-b)
1st case
x/sin(90-A)= y/sinA = l/sin90 => sinA=y/l & cosA=x/l

2nd case
(x+a)/sin(90-B)=(y-b)/sinB = l/sin90 => sinB=(y-b)/l & cosB=(x+a)/l

so (cosA-cosB)/(SinB-SinA)=[ x/l - (x+a)/l ]/[(y-b)/l - y/l] = a/b
