Maths Puzzle
the sum of three numbers is 136.if the ratio between first and second be 2:3 and that between second and third is 5:3,then the second number is?
Read Solution (Total 6)
-
- sum of 3 nos is 136(given)
A:B=2:3--->(1) & B:C=5:3--->(2)(given)
To obtain b's ratio from (1) and(2),
B:C=(3/5)*5:(3/5)*3=3:9/5
so,A:B:C=2:3:9/5=10:15:9(dividing each term by 5)
Second number is=(136*(15/(10+15+9)))=60
The second number is 60.

- Let the 3 nos. be x y z.
x+y+z=136
x/y = 2/3 => x = (2y/3)
y/z = 5/3 => z = (3y/5)
Substituting....
y=60 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- Since the ratio between 1st & 2nd nos. is 2:3 and that between 2nd & 3rd is 5:3. Then the nos. are in ratio 10:15:9.
So, the 2nd no. is 15/34*136 = 60 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- hai lalith its correct.but i have an doubt .how 3/5 will come in that simplification

Ans is 60
first find the lcm of b's part in both the ratios.
here it will be 15
now convert the two ratios to 10:15 and 15:9h
now the final ratio becomes 10:15:9
hence the second no is=(15/(10+15+9))*136=60

- a:b:c
2 3
5 3
there will be cross multiply
2*5:3*5:3*3
10:15:9
so second number is
15*136/34=60 ans - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
