Maths Puzzle
If a rectangular field is 16m long and 10m wide, there is a path of uniform width all around it having an area of 120 sq.m .What is the width of the path ?
Read Solution (Total 2)
-
- area=2*width*[length+breath-2(width)]
suppose width is x
120=2*x[10+16-2x]
120=52x-4x^2
4x^2-52x+120
4x^2-40x-12x+120
4x(x-10)-12(x-10)
on solving
x=10(ans)

- total area of rectangle field is 160 m sqr.
and total area of rectangle field with a path all around it is 280 m sqr.
now 280=28*10there is a all around path so it is not possible.
now280=14*20
the path is uniform.so if we add 4 with length and width of the field we get 20m and 14 m.
so the width of the path is 4m.
