The ages of two friends is in the ratio 6:5. The sum of their ages is 66.After how many years will the ages be in the ratio 8:7?
Read Solution (Total 5)

- 6x+5x=66,x=6
then multiply x with first ratio i.e 6(6)/5(6)=36/30
multiply x with second ratio 8(6)/7(6)=48/42
difference between the above ratios numerator is 48-36=12 years - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(8) No(0)
- Ans=12 years
If the ages are x and y, then Given x/y=6/5 & x+y=66
Solving these two eqn. we get x=30, y=36
If the ratio becomes 8/7, after say z years,then (x+z)/(y+z)=8/7
Substituting values of x & y, (36+z)/(30+z)=8/7, 252+7z=240+8z ->z=12 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(2)
- 6x+5x=66 so, x=11
Now [6(11)+y]/[5(11)+y]=8/7
On solving y=22 years - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(16)
- 6x+5x=66
hence x=6
now as per the given condition: [6(6)+y/5(6)+y]=[8/7]
on solving the above equation ans will be 12 yrs. - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- Sorry guys, calculation mistake it was.
