Time Distance and Speed
A and B start simultaneously at one end of a swimming pool whose length is 50 m. The swimming race is a race of 1000 m. If A beats B and meets him 17 times during the course and A’s speed is 5 m/s then the speed of B could be
a) 1 m/s b) 3 m/s
c) 4 m/s d) 6 m/s
Read Solution (Total 2)
-
- the total distance of the pool is 50m.
A will complete the race fully by 1000m.
where as B will take nly (17*50)= 850m only.
speed of A is 5 m/s => time taken to complete one round is 50m/(5m/s)=10 sec.
the total time taken by A to complete the race is equal to the total time
taken by B to complete 17th round.
so (17Tb)=(20Ta)
17Tb=(20*10)
Tb=11.764 sec
speed of B = 50/11.764 = 4.2 m/s..
Option C will be rite.. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(5) No(0)
- Total distance covered for 17 meet would be 34*50 = 1700 m
The distance A wud travel 5*1700/(5+x), where 'x' is the speed of B.
Now we know A travels 1000 m.
8500/(5+x) = 1000
=> 8500-5000 = 1000x
=> x = 3500/1000 = 3.5 4
So, option (C) wud be good choice. - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(4)
