a watch gains 5 mnts every hour.it is set right at 12 noon.what is the true time when the watch is showing 5 pm,on the same day???ans=4:480/13

• Let the actual time be x hours.
  Then the time in the watch is x*(1+5/60) hours.
  Hours passed since 12 noon = 5
  ∴ x*(1+5/60) = 5
  or, x*(60+5) = 5 * 60
  or, x = 300/65 = 60/13
  Actual time = 60/13 hrs
  = 4 8/13 hrs
  =4 hrs (8*60)/13 min
  = 4:480/13

• the watch gains 5 mins every hour
  so after end of 1 hr the watch has gone 65 mins instead of 60 mins
  so it travels 65 mins when it should have gone 60 mins
  so it travels 60 mins(1hr) when it should have gone 60*60/65=55.38 mins
  so after 5 hrs it goes 55.38*5=276.9mins
  so actual time=276.9/60=4.61=4hr36min

• 65 min of 1st clock = 60 min of correct clock
  5 hr of this clock = 60x5/65 of correct clock=60/13
  correct time is 60/13 hr after 12 = 4:8/13=4:480/13

  now d correct clock according to dis=60/13 hr
  that means 4 hr n 48 min arround from clock 12 noon.
  so correct clock wiil be=4:48/13
