20=(X/2)/t1
t1=X/40
s=d/t

30=(X/2)/t2
t2=X/60
t1+t2=X/40+X/60=X/24hrs

s=d/t
s=X/(X/24)
s=24km/hr

i.e x/2 in 20 km/hr & x/2 in 30 km/hr
so average speed=2ab/(a+b)
so 2*20*30/(20+30)=24km/hr
