  let M men work in 20 days. then, we have--> MAN*DAY=20M.(constant)
  now, 12 men did not come. So, we have remaining men=(M-12) which work for 32 days.
  Then, MAN*DAY=(M-12)*32.
  So, (M-12)*32=20M
  => M=32.

  so,(x-12) men 1 day work =(x-12)/(20*x) but actual work done in 1 day = 1/32

• let x be the no of men in the group now, x men---20 days and (x-12) men-----32 days
  By chain rule: It is an indirect proportion i.e more men, less days
  (x-12):x::20:32 by solving this we'll get x=32 i.e initially group contains 32 men.
