a certain job was assigned to a group of men to do in 20days.but 12men did not turn up for the job and remaining people did the job in 32days.what is the original no. of members in the group?

let M men work in 20 days. then, we have--> MAN*DAY=20M.(constant)
now, 12 men did not come. So, we have remaining men=(M-12) which work for 32 days.
Then, MAN*DAY=(M-12)*32.
So, (M-12)*32=20M

By chain rule: It is an indirect proportion i.e more men, less days
(x-12):x::20:32 by solving this we'll get x=32 i.e initially group contains 32 men.
