You are given 87 matchsticks. They are arranged in rectangular manner.Find the number of triangles formed?
Read Solution (Total 14)
-
- 1st triangle formed by using 3 sticks ...
so remaining sticks are =87-3=84
all other can be formed by just using two sticks =84/2 =42
so total =42(by using two sticks)+1(by using three sticks) =43 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(49) No(0)

- the question is wrong ,it shud be like if first triangle is formed with three sticks and later with two sticks?how many triangles are posssible??=43

- Here we know,
3 matchsticks form 1 triangle
5 matchsticks form 2 triangle
7 matchsticks form 3 triangle
In this way, the matchsticks and the triangles both follow different A.P. series.
We have total 87 matchsticks
Now if 87 is the = [(87-3)/2]+1
= 43 th term of the A.P. series of matchsticks.
Now, the 43 th term of the A.P. series of triangle is 43.
So, answer is,
we can form 43 triangles. - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)

- 2n + 1 = k
Here n = triangles, k = sticks
2n+1 = 87
n = 43
so ans is 43 triangles. - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- First form the first triangle by using 3 sticks then, use one of the three sides of first triangle as the first side of second triangle.. Add two extra sticks to it... I hope i m clear..
