A few number of four-letter words are formed by using 17 consonants and 5 vowels. How many words out of them will have 2 different vowels in the middle and a consonant at each end?

  and selection of consonants=17c1*17c1

  at both end we have to placed consonants
  no of way= 17*17 (if repetition allowed )
  or i7*16 (if repetition is not allowed)
  now for vowels 5*4 ways (repetition is not allowed)
  total way= 17*17*5*4=5780

• there are 17 consonants from which 2 are to be selected in 17c2 ways similarly selecting 2 vowels out of 5 in 5c2 ways ,and the word can arrange within themselves in 2!*2! ways so total ways (17c2*5c2*2!*2!)=5440 ans (similar problem in arun sharma book)

• @ ravindra u are considering repetition in consonants but not in vowels.... y?
  whenever we are forming words we never take repetition.....
