a pole rests against a wall, and the tip of the pole is at a height of 8m. after sometime the pole slips back by 4m and falls on the ground.
what is the length of the pole?
Read Solution (Total 8)

- 10.
let the distance from of the ladder from the pole be x meter. A/c to Pythagoras th., ladder= root_under( x^2 + 64).
In the second case, when the ladder moves 4 m , i.e distance from the pole = x+4, it touches the ground, means the length of ladder = x+4.
Now, equating the both lengths we get x=6, length = x+4 =10 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(18) No(1)
- let the length of the pole is = L.
Now
before slide
L=((8^2)+(L-4)^2)^1/2
L=10

- if we consider a triangle having sides(3,4,5) then T will be 56, but if we consider a triangle of sides(3,5,6) then aplying Heros formula we get a fractional value of area of triangle hence value of T will also be fractional... hence correct option will be (a) can be fractional as in this option there is a "CAN"
one more thing when you are taking the sides of a triangle on your own then make sure that sum of two sides is always greater than third side.....you cant take any value to any sides that is the property of a triangle otherwise triangle cannot be formed.
and like wise difference of any two sides will be less than third side.
correct option is (A) can be fractional - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
