we have an equal arms two balance and need to weigh objects with integral in the range 1 to40kilo grams. we have a set of standard weights and can place the weigts in any pan.i.e some weigts can be in a pan with objects and some weigts can be in other pan.the minimum number of standard weigts required is?

and now for measuring 8 to 15 kgs there will be another weight add is 8
by taking weight 16 kg there will be only 31 kgs that we can measure by this

Hence solution is=3^0+3^1+3^2+3^3

Hence using these 4 values we can measure any weight b/w 1&40 !!
