Ship is 156km away from the shore. spring leak which admit 7/3 ton of water in 6.5minutes. A PUMP THROWS OUT 15 TON WATER in 1hour. If 68 ton water is sufficient to sink the ship. find the average speed of sailing to so as to just reach shore?

Addition of water is 7/3 tons in 6.5 min. or 13/2 min.,so rate/hr.= 60*(7/3)/(13/2)=280/13 Ton/hr. and
with pump outlet is 15 Ton/hr. so net addition of water/hr.=(280/13) - 15=85/13 Ton/hr.
As with 68 ton of water,ship can sink, so hours needed to add upto 68 ton of water=68/(85/13) hrs.
So speed required to just reach the shore=Total distance/Time=156/[68/(85/13)]=15 km/hr.
