a tree of height 36m at the edge of the reoad broke at a certain height, it fell in such a way that it stop touch the other edge of the road. if the breadth is 12 m, then what is the height at which the tree broken

- If tree is broken then it forms a right angled triangle.
Let the height of broken tree =y
and length of broken part=x
now, x + y = 36
x^2 - y^2=144
(x+y)(x-y)=144
36(x-y)=144
x-y=4
=>x=20
y=16 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(12) No(0)
- let the broken tree height be 36-x ,the other one will be x
so perpendicular =36-x ,hypotenuse =x and base =12 m
no using Pythagoras theorem . x^2 = (36-x)^2 + 12^2
--->>> X^2 =1296 +X^2 -72x+144
>>>>>72x = 1440
>>>>> x=20 m answer and height of broken tree is 16m - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- let height of broken part be x . then remaining part = 36-x.
now pythagoras theorem :- 36^2= (x-36)^2 + 12^2
on solving this we will get x=20
ans = 36-20=16 m - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(2)
- height=12.44m

- let the height at which tree is broken(ground to broken part)=x
height of remaining=36-x
(36-x)^2=x^2+12^2
x=2.25m - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(5)
