statement 2) the cost price of one litre milk is Rs.16.
Read Solution (Total 20)

- Ans is a.
see
16 ltr milk let per letr price x then 16x is cost price befor adding water
after adding 20% water milk+ water =19.2 ltr let the x is per ltr cost then 19.2x
so
(19.2x-16x)/16x=20%

- 20% water..so milk =80% of 16=12.8 lit is milk
12.8 l is sold at 16/lit..
so..16 l is sold at (16*16)/12.8=20
..gain=sp-cp=20-16=4
gain%=(4/16)*100=25% - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(8) No(8)

- the way u guys are solving is wrong.. in 16 litre of milk 20% water is being added. so there will be 12.8 litre milk... solution provided by SHIPRA SHARIN is quite good.. so the answer of this question will be using both the statements it can be solved..
from the first statement we will have S.P of one litre milk and in second statement C.P is given. - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(3)
- 20% water added to 16ltr of milk that means 3.2 ltr water..total solution 19.2 ltr
so as per question,milk has to sell in cost price i.e. 16/itr.
selling price of milk is =19.2*16=307.2
original price of milk=16*16=256
profit =307.2-256=51.2
percentage of profit=51.2/256*100=20% - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(1)

- Statement 1 only sufficient to answer the question
Let 1 ltr milk is of 10 rupees
the 16 ltr milk costs 16*10=160 rupees
adding 20% water
total milk=16+16*20/100=18.2
then 18.2 ltr milk costs 18.2*10=182 rupees
profit=22
profit percentage=(22/160)*100=13.75 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(2)
- 25%
16litres milk+20%water(4litres)=20liters mixture
profit=sp - cp=20*16 -16*16=64
%profit=(profit/c.p)*100=(64/256)*100=25%

- how stmnt 1 can be only sufficient to give the answer ..dilip yadav has also failed to prove it.his equation is meaningless as x got cancelled .without knowing the cost price gain% cant ever be derived..both are required to give the solution.

- only statement 1 is sufficient to answer the question because we can take the cp as x ...and solve by taking one variable and 1 equation.....if we will add 20% water then the total solution will be 19.2 then
(19.2x-16x)/16x
20%
where x is the cp - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- Correct answer is: A
Considering statement 1 ,
let there be 100 litres of milk and cost is x.
After adding 20 litres of milk to it Cost price becomes: (x/120)
So, C.P. of 16 litres is: (x/120)*16.
S.P is (x/100)*16
.
. . Profit is: (SP -CP)/CP *100= (16x/100-16x/120)/16x/120 *100=20%
