A lady was out for shopping. She spent half of her money in buying A and gave 1 dollar to a beggar. Further she spent half of her remaining money and gave 2 dollar to charity. Further she spent half of remaining money and gave 3 dollar to some children
Read Solution (Total 10)
-
- Let ‘x’ be the amount the lady had initially.
1st transaction -> x/2 +1 , the remaining amount x - (x/2 + 1) = x/2 - 1 let it be ‘A’.
2nd transaction -> A/2 – 2 be the remaing amount , let the reminder be ‘B’
3rd transaction -> B/2 – 3 = 1
Now solving the 3rd transaction we get the value of ‘B’ as 8
Solving the 2nd transaction we get the value of ‘A’ as 20
Solving the 1st transaction we get the value of ‘x’ as 42. - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(23) No(7)
- lastly she has 3 rs
so after charity she has 3*2=6 rs
before giving 2 dollar she has rs 8 in hand
and after giving 1 doller to beggear she has 8*2=16 rs
it means before that she has 16+1 =17 rs
so it is clear that in starting she has 17*2= 34 rs in hand

- initially let x be the amount she has
after buying A and gave 1 dollar to beggar she left with (x/2)-1=(x-2)/2
then after buying B and gave 2 dollar to beggar she left with (x-2)/4- 2=(x-10)/4.
and finally after buying c and gave 3 dollar to beggar she left with (x-10)/8 - 3= (x-34)/8
(x-34)/8=remaining amount ,compare and get answer - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(1)
- Bottom up strategy
she has 1 dollar, she gave 3$ to children, all of these was half of what she spent
so, 4X2 = 8
similarly, she gave 2$ to charity and she was having 8$ already
so 8+2 = 10, which was half of what she spent
so 10X2 = 20
at the beginning, she gave 1$ to beggar and half of what she spent on shopping,
20+1 = 21
21X2 = 42 Ans. - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- total amount =34 dollar
suppose total amount is X
(X/2)+1+((X-20/4)+2+((X-10)/8)+3=X
solve this equestion,we get X=34 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
