made neither a profit nor a loss. Find the cost price of the bycle

- This is the way I have worked out..
10% Discount on S(Selling Price) so Price is 90% of S
Again 20% Discount on Above so now price is 80% of 90% of S = 72% of S
Now, Further Discount is in term of C(Cost Price) so 20% of C.
Now 72% of S - 20% of C = C (since he made no profit no loss)
so 72% of S = 1200% of C
so Cost Price = (72/120)* S
but S = 5000
So by substituting you get 3000 - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(34) No(8)

- Net discount after two successive discount= (10+20)-(10*20)/100=28%
So new selling price = (100-28)% of S=72% of S
Now, further discount on cost price= 20% C
as the shopkeeper made no profit and loss,
72% of S- 20% of C = 100% of C
or, 72% of S = 120% C
or, C = (72/120)* 5000
or, C = 3000 - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(11) No(0)

- 72%of s - 20%of c = c
72%s =120%c
s=5000
72%of 5000=120%of c

- 10% 5000=500, 20% 4500=900, sp=3600, So, x+(x/5)=3600,

- The answer should be 2000:
market price = p = 5000
cost price = c
1) first-round discounts = 10% + 20% = 0.9*0.8 = 0.72 ==>
the price after first-round discounts = 0.72*p = 0.72 * 5000 = 3600 = p'
2) the second-round discount is 20% of the cost price = 0.8*c ==>
the price after the second-discount = p'- 0.8*c = 0.72*p - 0.8*c
Now neither profit, nor loss: final price (after the second-round discount) = cost price ==>
0.72*p - 0.8*c = c ==>
0.72*5000 - 0.8*c = c ==> 3600 = 1.8*c ==>
c = 2000 - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(3)
- SP after successive discount =5000*0.9*0.8=3600.
therefore CP=SP/1+0.2=3600/1.2=3000 - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
