Averages
5 members of a team are weighed consequetively and their average weight calculated after each member is weighed.if the average weight increases by one kg each time,how much heavier is the last player than the first one.?
Read Solution (Total 1)
-
- 8 kg
Let the weight of 5 members of a team be a, b, c, d, e kg. respectively, then
When a is weighted, his average weight=a
Average weight of a & b= (a+b)/2 = a+1 => b=a+2 ---(i)
Average weight of a,b & c =(a+b+c)/3=a+2
Substituting value of b, we get [a+ (a+2) +c]/3=a+2 => c=a+4 ---(ii)
Average weight of a, b, c & d = (a+b+c+d)/4=a+3
Substituting value of b & c, we get [a+(a+2)+(a+4)+d]/4=a+3 => d=a+6 ---(iii)
Average weight of a,b,c,d & e = (a+b+c+d+e)/5=a+4
Substituting value of b,c & d, we get [a+(a+2)+(a+4)+(a+6)+e]/5=a+4 => e=a+8
Thus e - a = 8 - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(19) No(0)
