A team of 36 members is divided into groups of equal size to make a trip. Since the groups were too large to fit in a car , 3 members were taken from each group and these members then formed into two additional groups . after this , all groups had the same number of members . how many members of the team were in a group before the three members were taken out from each group ?

  18x2
  12x3
  9x4
  6x6 also 4x9,3x12,2x18
  if we consider 9x4 where 9=members and 4=groups
  now 3 members taken from each (4)groups and formed two additional group:
  = 3x4 = 12members or 2 groups 0f 6 members.
  previously we considered 9 members in 4 groups after taking out 3 members from each group the new reduced size of groups will have (9-3) = 6 members
  thus all groups have 6 members
  therefore ,
  members of the team were in a group before the three members were taken out from each group = 9

  so 36/n-3=36/(n+2)
  solving we get 6 and -4
  so 6 is no of groups and each group contains 6 members

  With initially 'x' members in each group, then number of groups=36/x
  After taking out 3 members from each group, number of group formed are 2 more than the previous, so 36/(x-3)=(36/x) + 2
  x^2 -3x -54=0
  (x+6)(x-9)=0
