12, 20, 40, 72, 116, 172 ?

• the difference between each succesive number increses from the previous difference by 12 say 20-12=8,40-20=20,72-40=32,116-74=44 ,that is 8+12=20,20+12=32 and so on...

  20-12=8=2*4;
  40-20=20=5*4;
  72-40=32=8*4;
  116-72=44=11*4;
  172-116=56=14*4;
  therefore,2,5,8,11,14 and last one is 14+3=17*4=68
  i.e 172+68=240
