Ashok went to a bank to draw money. When his token number was called out, he asked the teller to give him 'x' hundred-rupee notes and y thousand-rupee notes. The teller made a mistake and gave Ashok x thousand-rupee notes and y hundred-rupee notes. Ashok took the money without verifying it and walked home. On the way, he bought groceries worth Rs.500. After the purchase, he realized the teller's mistake and noticed that he had exactly half the amount he should have received. Which of the following may be true about the amount on the cheque?
a)It lies between 10000 and 11000
b)It lies between 11000 and 12000
c)It lies between 12000 and 13000
d)It lies between 13000 and 14000
Read Solution (Total 2)
-
- x-rupee note = 100x
y-rupee note = 1000y.
a/c to tailor
x-rupee note = 1000x
y-rupee note = 100y.
now he bought a grocery of rs. 500.
so equation will be.
1000x+100y-500 = (100x+1000y)/2
solving we get 19x-8y = 10.
use hit nd trial method to solve this equation.
x = 6 and y= 13 . so total money he had = 100x+1000y = 600+13000 = 13600.
so it lies between 13000 and 14000. option d) is correct. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(52) No(0)
