Age Problem
find the number of ways a batsman can score a double century only in terms of 4's & 6's?
Read Solution (Total 17)
-
- 4's and 6's
------------
50 0
47 2
44 4
41 6
38 8
35 10
32 12
29 14
26 16
23 18
20 20
17 22
14 24
11 26
8 28
5 30
2 32
So total 17 ways but here it is 4's & 6's both so don't consider 1st one
Final ans : 16 ways - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(104) No(10)
- he can score only by 50 4's
2nd way is 2 6's &47 4's
3rd way is 4 6's& remaining 4's
and so on up to 32 6's & 2 4's
total no of ways =17 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(17) No(20)
- eqn is 6x+4y=200 here possible values of x varies from 0,2,.. ,32 hence total of 17 values

- ans is.. 16 different ways
4x+6y=200
x=0 is false since 200 should be summation of both 4's and 6's.
(x,y)=(47,2),(44,4)........(2,32)
so they are total 16 WAYS... - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(14) No(6)
- 6's are in 2's multiple from 0 to 32
so there are 16 diff ways - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(8)
- 4x+6y=200
x,y>=0
so:
x=0
x=50-3y/2
0=50-3y/2
50=3y/2
100=3y
y=100/3
y=33
so number of pairs is 33/2
16
zero also included 16+1

- it's 1+(!49/!47.!2)+(!48/!44.!4)+(!48/!41.!6)......+(!34/!2.!32)

- I think By hitting only 4's the probbability is 50
since only through 6's he cannot make 200 so he can hit 32 sixes and 2 fours
therefore i think the answer should be 34 or 50. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(5)
- As x is an integer, y should be a multiple of 2.
If
y = 0, x = 50
y = 2, x = 47
y = 4, x = 44
...
y = 32, x = 2
So total ways are (32-0)/2 + 1 = 17 ( if 0 6's are possible) otherwise 16

- hitting 4s alone gives me one way of scoring 200 since 200 is divisible by 4
every multiple of 12 gives me another way... 200/12,quotient is 16
so 16+1(4s alone)=17 ways - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(1)
- ans-16
by hit n trial method - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(15)
- I guess u missed counting 0
it should be 17 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(7)
- it is same as 4x+6y=200
solution for it is y=2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16 &
x=47,44,41,38,35,32,29,26 resp
so answer is 8 ways... - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(13)
- 4x+6y=200
i.e. 2x+3y=100
x=(100-3y)/2
so for each even value of y we will get an integral value of x
so for y=2 x=47, y=4 x=44 and so on, y increases by 2 and x decreases by 3.
So finally we get 16 values of x and y such that they are both greater than 0.
Ans =16 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- I think you may missed the count......... It may be 17

- While dividing 200 by 4 we get 50 (i.e) when a player hits 50 times 4's, his score will be 200.
Two 6's is equal to three 4's. So, we can replace three 4's with two 6's (i.e) no change will occur in the score. We have to consider how many three 4's will be in this fifty 4's. ans -> 50//3 -> 16.
16 is the combination with 6's. There will be a single chance with all 4's. So, the final answer will be 16+1 = 17.
Answer = 17. - 3 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
