A lady has fine gloves and hats in her closet - 25 blue, 7 red, and 9 yellow. The lights are out and it is totally dark. In spite of the darkness, she can make out the difference between a hat and a glove. She takes out an item out of the closet only if she is sure that if it is a glove. How many gloves must she take out to make sure she has a pair of each color ?

-
- she must take a minimum of 36 hats
so that in the worst case scenario
if even 25 turns out to be blue
if even 9 turns to be yellow
even after that she will be having 2 red.
so i guess 36 is the answer.

- 36 is the answer. i satisfied with this solution
in case of maximum
24 blue out of 25
8 yellow out of 9
now 1 yellow and 7 red remain
so she can be pick 1 yellow and 1 blue
she will pick 2 blue for pair formation
total 24+8+2+2=36 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- It is not given that how many of these items are gloves and how many are hats, if we consider that all the items are gloves then the no. she must take out to make sure she has a pair of each color is 32+25+2 = 59 gloves.

Consider all permutations (i.e. arrangements) of the digits 1, 2 and 3. We will say that a hit has been scored if at least one digit occurs in its proper position in the permutation, i.e. if 1 occurs in the first position, or 2 in the second position, or 3 in the third position. In how many of these permutations is a hit scored?
If a month is having four Sundays then what is the first day of the next month?
If month has 28 days i.e. 4 complete weeks: The month could start on any day, there will be exactly 4 Sundays. Thus, the month could end on any weekday. And the first day of the next month could be any week-day.
If the month has 29 days i.e. 4 complete weeks and 1 odd day: The month could start on ANY day EXCEPT Sunday (else it will have 5 Sundays). Thus, the next month could star on ANY day EXCEPT Monday.
If the month has 30 days i.e. 4 complete weeks and 2 odd days: The month could start on ANY day EXCEPT Saturday or Sunday (else it will have 5 Sundays). Thus, the next month could start on ANY day EXCEPT Monday or Tuesday.
If the month has 31 days i.e. 4 complete weeks and 3 odd days: The month could start on ANY day EXCEPT Friday, Saturday or Sunday (else it will have 5 Sundays). Thus, the next month could start on ANY day EXCEPT Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday.
