Applicant-10: Accepted
and so on
The company receives a total of N applicants and 5% of them are selected. Find the total no. of applications and total no. of selected candidates.

If 3 students got selected, then 1+2+3 rejected
If 4 students got selected, then 1+2+3+4 rejected
If n students got selected, then (1+2+3+4+...+n) rejected =n(n+1)/2 rejected
For n students to be selected, total students appeared is = students who got accepted + students who got rejected = n+n(n+1)/2
acceptance percentage, n/[n+n(n+1)/2]=5
solving it for n, we got n=37
Therefore accepted students are, n=37
