Age Problem
The ages of two friends is in the ratio 6:5.The sum of their ages is 66. After how many years will the ages be in the ratio 8:7?
Read Solution (Total 6)
-
- 6x+5x=66
11x=66
x=6
(6*6+y)/(5*6+y)=8/7
y=12
years are 12. - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(32) No(4)
- let 2 ages be x and y years
so x/y=6/5 -----eqn 1
given x+y=66 ----eqn2
solving eqn 1 and eqn 2 gives the two ages
and further part is easy... - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(8) No(4)
- let ratio is x
5x + 6x = 66
x = 6
now,
30+z + 36+z = 90
z = 12

- ans is 12 years..
x/y=6/5
x+y=66
so x=36 and y=30
(36+x)/(30+x)=8/7
so, x=12... - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- 6x+5x=66
11x=66
x=6
ages are in ratio 6x,5x ..i.e., 36 and 30 yrs.
given that 36+x/30+x=8/7
(36+x)7=(30+x)8
252+7x=240+8x
12=x.
so the ages will be in the ratio after 12 years.

- Let the ages be 6x and 5x therefore,
6x+5x=66(given)
11x=66
x=6
now let number of year be y
(6x+y)/(5x+y) =8/7
putting value of x
36+y/30+y=8/7
252+7y = 240 +8y
y=12(Ans) - 4 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
