Peter and Paul Peter are two friends. The sum of their ages is 35 years. Peter is twice as old as Paul was when Peter was as old as Paul is now. What is the present age of Peter?

• Let peter's age=x & paul's age=y
  Given: x+y=35
  Wen peter was as old as paul is now, i.e.
  wen peter was y i.e.(x-y) yrs ago,
  then paul was y-(x-y)=2y-x yrs old.
  so, acc. to condition:
  x=2* Paul's age x-y yrs ago,i.e.
  x=2(2y-x)
  x=4y-2x
  x=4(35-x)-2x
  x=140-6x
  7x=140
  x=20
  
  i.e. Peter's age is 20 yrs old.
