Numerical Ability
Ratio and Proportion
The ratio between the number of passengers travelling by I & II Class between two railway stations is 1 : 50,
whereas the ratio of the I & II Class fares between the same stations is 3 : 1. If on a particular day, Rs. 1325 were
collected from the passengers travelling between these stations, what was the amount collected from the II Class
passengers ?
Read Solution (Total 5)
-
- let the no of passengers b denoted as x and fare as y
therefore, x*3y+50x*y=1325
or,3xy+50xy=1325
or,53xy=1325
or,xy=1325/53=25
thus amnt colectd 4m passengers of 2nd class=50*xy=50*25=1250 - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(48) No(3)
- let no of passengers be p and rate of fare be f
hence p*3f+50p*f =1325
=> 3pf+50pf = 1325
=> 53pf = 1325
=> pf = 1325/53 =25
amount collected from II class passengers = 50 *pf = 50*25 = 1250

- Let the number of passenger in 1st class = x
The number of passenger in II class = 50x
Fare of 1st class = 3y
Fare of II class = y
Total amount = x*3y + 50x*y = 53xy = 1325 (Given)
xy = 25
Amount collected from II class passenger = 50x*y = 50xy
=> 50 * 25 = Rs 1250. - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
