A and B walk from X and Y, a distance of 27 km at 5 km/hr and 7 km/hr respectively. B reaches Y, and immediately turns back meeting A at Z. What is the distance from X to Z?

B travells X to Y in 27/7 hrs.
By that time A covered only 19.28 =( 5* 27/7) km distance.
Now the Remaining distance is 27-19.28= 7.72 km.
When A and B met they have covered a certain lenght of distance in same time. Here the tie is common.
Now if from 7.72 km let us suppose that A has covered x km dist while B has covered 7.72-x km dist
Time taken by A = Time taken by B
x/5=(7.72-x)/7
solving we get
x= 3.21 km

DISTANCE COVERED BY A IN 3.85 HR=19.28KM
NOW RELATIVE TIME WHERE THEY WILL MEET= 7.71/(5+7)=0.64 HR.
DISTANCE COVERED BY A IN 0.64 HR = 0.64*5=3.21 KM
SO TOTAL DISTANCE COVERED = 19.28+3.21=22.49 KM
