The ratio of cost price to the marked price of an article is 4 : 5. If the ratio of the
profit percentage on selling the article to the discount allow ed on it is 5 : 4, w hat is the
profit percentage?
A. 10%
B. 12%
C. 12.5%
D. 15%
Read Solution (Total 5)
-
- major formula which gives a relation b/w MP & CP
MP=CP { 100 +/- p %)/(100 +/- d% )}
Add when there is profit in % and for "d" subtract when there is discount in %
where p-->profit %
and d--->discount %
so using it MP/CP=(100+p)/(100-d)
mind it that in Question Cp/Mp is given
So,Mp/Cp=5/4
also it is given that p/d=5/4
so d=4*p/5
put it in original solution
and p=12.5%

- CP:MP=4:5
so assume cp=400 and MP=500.
PROFIT%:DISCOUNT=5:4. so let 5x and 4x.
now from the problem
After giving discount on marked price still he has a profit too.
500 - (4x% of 500) = 400 + (5x% of 400)
500 - 2x = 400 + 2x
solving we get x=5/2
profit percentage = 5x = 5(5/2) = 12.5% is answer - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(46) No(3)
- The Profit percentage is calculated on Cost price and discount percentage on Marked price,so we have
Marked price Cost price
5 4
Discount percentage Profit percentage
4 5
Total discount = total profit = 4*5=20
As discount is equal to profit, lets assume the value of cost price. For ease of calculation assume cost price as 400 and selling price as 500. The difference is the sum of discount and profit.
So, eachof them is equal to 50. So, profit percentage is 50/400 * 100 = 12.5% - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(18) No(3)
- let c.p=4x, m.p=5x
p%=5k, d%=4x;
selling price = c.p * (100+p%)/100 = m.p * (100-d%)/100
4x (100 + 5k) = 5x (100 - 4k)
=>k=5/2
p%= 5k% = 12.5% - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- assume cp=400 sp=500
profit =420
discount= 480
profit = 480-420/400=60/400=15% - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(48)
