If the height of a tree is 36ft n it breaks at some height and its top touches d other edge of the road..breadth of the road is 12ft..the tree is on d other edge of the road..Find the height at whch the tree broke??

-
- ht of the tree=36ft
brdth of rd.=12 ft
now let the tree break at a height =x ft
after the tree breaks its touches the other edge of the road and look like a right angle traingle
so, (36-x)^2 = 12^2 + x^2
1152=72x
x=16 ft ans. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(19) No(3)
- lets us consider the height of the tree from where it break will be x m the the remaining part of the tree which touches the tree will be (36-x)
Now applying pythagoras theorem (36-x)^2=x^2+144 now solving for x we get x=16m
so answer is 16 m - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- let the 2 sides be a and b
a+b=36
a^2+12^2=b^2
(36-b)^2+144=b^2
b comes out to be20
then a=16
b is the hypotenuse of the so formed right angled triangle

- Ans is 16. let the height if broken tree be h then h^2+12^2=(36-h)^2 from the u can get h
