Time Distance and Speed
Q. 5/6th of the way across a narrow railroad bridge, Anoop hears a train coming towards him. He knows that the train's speed is 35 miles per hour and that he has just enough time to reach safety at either end of the bridge. How fast can Anoop run (in miles per hour)?

- From the question i get the idea that anoop has already covered 5/6 of the bridge.
so distance left is 1/6
Now train has to travel the entire bridge at a speed of 35 mile per hour
so if the bridge length is x . The time taken by the train will me x/35.
In this time Anoop covers x/6 of the distance. Therefore speed of Anoop will be
(x/6)/(x/35)=35/6 mile/hr - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(28) No(2)
- 29.166 mph
If the distance of the bridge=x & speed of Anoop=y mph
Considering the case when he come back to the far end
Time taken by Anoop=Time taken by train
(x*5/6)/y = x/35 ,5x/6y =x/35 or
x=175/6= 29.166

- lex x=5/6 and y=35 they x*y=5/6*35=29.166mph
