Q. What is the next number in this series
17,18,19,23,31,40,67,...

• the next number is 83. sol- find the difference between the numbers.. if am right, they are 1,1,4,8,9,27..
  which is of the form, 1*1, 1*1*1, 2*2, 2*2*2, 3*3, 3*3*3, 4*4, 4*4*4 and goes on..
  4*4=16 the last number in the series is 67. so 67+16 gives 83

• 17,19,31,67 are the odd number places.. remaining numbers are even places... even places are getting odd place + natural number square. i.e 17+1^2=18,19+2^2=24,31+3^2=40 similarly 67+4^2=83.. so the ans is 83...

  if we consider odd places they are perfect square 1,4,9. so next number will be 67+16=83
