Q. If x^2 + (2a+3)x + (5-a) = 0 has both the roots as real and negative, then what is the greatest positive integral value of a?
Option
A. 1
B. 2
C. 3
D. 4
Read Solution (Total 1)

- if the two roots are -α & -ß.
Then α+ß=(2a+3) & αß=(5-a)
As the two roots are negative...then the term αß must be positive...
hence for a=5 the one root of x will be zero...which is a non negative term...
Hence the max value of a will be 4
