• All solutions mentioned here are wrong. The right answer is 9.84. (which is not there in the options)
  Here is the reasoning :
  
  When you lay a 1.5 m wide path around a rectangle, the corners have to be curved. This is because, if you form another rectangle outside this rectangle, the distance between two corresponding corners will become more than 1.5m.
  
  Hence, at the 4 corners, we will get 4 quarter cylinders. Therefore, the volume of gravel at corners = 4 x (vol. of 1 quarter cylinder)
  = 4 x (1/4*(pi)*r*r*h )
  = (pi)*r*r*h
  where r = 1.5 m and h = 0.12 m
  
  Then, we will add the volume of remaining 4 cuboid (formed between the sides of inner rectangle and outer one ).
  
  Area of 4 cuboid = [2 x (17*0.12*1.5)] + [2 x (8*0.12*1.5)]
  
  Thus, adding all the volumes, we will get = 9.84 as the answer

  Volume of smaller cuboid(l=17,b=8,h=0.12) vol2=16.32
