Upto 149, there will be one 5 in each set of 10 numbers viz.
121-130= no of 5's=1
131-140= no of 5's=1
141-150= no of 5's=2
151-160=no of 5's=10
161-170= no of 5's=1
171-180= no of 5's=1
181-190= no of 5's=1
191-200= no of 5's=1
Similarly it can be found that there will be (8+10=)18 5's in 201 to 300.
From 301 to 349 there will be 5 occurences of 5's and from 350-356 there will be 8 occurences of the digit 5.

SO in total, no of occurences of digit 5 in the number range of 121 to 356= 18+18+13= 49.
