- let speed of A = x m/s & speed of B = y m/s then
(1000/x + 14) = (1000-50)/y => 1000/x = 950/y - 14 ----(1)
(1000-22*y)/y = (1000-20)/x => 980/x = 1000/y - 22 ----(2)
dividing (1) by (2)
=> 1000/980 = (950 - 14y) / (1000 - 22y)
=> 100(1000 - 22y) = 98(950 - 14y)
=> 828y = 6900
=> y = 25/3 m/s
from (1), 1000/x = 950*3/25 - 14
=> 1000/x = 100
=> x = 10 m/s
so, time taken by A to run 1 km = 1 km / 10 m/s = 100 sec

- Let speed of A & B is a m/sec & b m/sec
Time taken to cover 1000 m by A=1000/a
Time taken to cover 950 by B=950/b
A gives B a start of 50m,A wins by 14 secs ,
950/b-1000/a=14....(1)
A gives B a start of 22secs B wins by 20m ,
1000/b-980/a=22.....(2)
Let 1/a=x,1/b=y ,
950y-1000x=14
1000y-980x=22
by solving x=10m/sec
time taken to a to run 1000m ,1000/10=100secs - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(16) No(0)
