Diamonds value is proportional to its weight. when diamonds broke into pieces in ratio 1:2:3:4:5 total loss in value is 85000. what is the value of the diamond twice the weight of original diamond.

- There will be no loss.
2 (x+2x+3x+4x+5x)=85000 =>x=8500/3
Now it said that value of the diamond is twice the Weight of original diamond therefore,
Value = 2 (x)+2 (2x)+2 (3x)+2 (4x)+2 (5x) = 30x
Then, 30*(8500/3) = 85000.
Therefore their is no loss.
But if you take value of diamond is square of its weight then we will have loss of 74000. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(16)

let weight of the original diamond be 15k ( This number is the sum of the numbers in the ratio given ) ,so, it's value would be 225k^2. Now, the broken diamond's value adds upto 55k^2. So, loss of value is 170k^2 which is 85,000. This gives k^2 = 500.
We need (30k)^2 = 900k^2 = 900* 500 = 450,000 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(1)
- Dear, question is wrong. Here, weight= k*(value)^2.
