A cistern can be filled up by one pipe in 12hrs and by another in 8 hrs. they are kept open for 2and 1/2 hrs, the part of the cistern filled up is?

Fraction filled by 1st pipe = 1/12
Fraction filled by 2nd pipe = 1/8
Together they fill = 1/12+1/8
=5/24

In 2 and 1/2 hours (5/2 hrs)
Fraction filled = 5/24 * 5/2 = 25/48

for 2hrs filled part will be =2(1/12 + 1/8)=5/12
for 1/2 hr filled part is 1/2(1/12 + 1/8)=5/48
so,total is 5/12 + 5/48 = 25/48.

2 taps can fill a tank in 8hrs and 6hrs respectively a 3rd tap can empty it in 12hrs. how long will it take to fill the tank if all 3 taps are opened together? A cistern normally fills in 8hrs, but due to leakage in its base it takes two more hours for the cistern to be filled in,if the cistern is full how long will it take to be emptied through the leakage?
