In a group of buffaloes and ducks, the number of legs are 24 more than twice the number of heads. What is the number of buffaloes in the group?
Read Solution (Total 16)
-
- let no. of buffaloes be x & no. of ducks be y
buffaloes have 4 legs while ducks have 2
4x + 2y = 2*(x + y) + 24
=> 4x + 2y - 2x - 2y = 24
=> x = 12
number of buffaloes in the group = 12 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(104) No(3)
- let there be x buffaloes and y ducks.
As we know buffaloes have 4 legs and ducks have 2 legs, so we can write
4x+2y
and as the question states the legs are twice + 24 than the heads.
so
4x+2y=2*(x+y)+24
i.e. x=12(ans.) - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(5) No(2)
- ans is 6 beacause no of legs =24
head=24/2=12
so buffaloes are 5
duck=2 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(23)
- let x be no of buffaloes n y be no ducks
so no legs = 4x+2y
no of heads=x+y
given
4x+2y=2(x+y)+24
so answer is 12 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- 12
no of legs=24
no of head=x
head is twice=2x
legs are more than 24 of head
2x+24=0
x=12

- c=cows
d=duck
c+d=no of heads
4c+2d=2(c+d)+24;
c=12
no. of legs=12*4=48 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- let x be buff. and y be duck.
buff. has 4 legs and duck has 2 legs so eq is 4X+2y
acc. to quest. eq is 2(x+y)+24
equating those we get x=12

- 4 legs × 5 buffaloes = 20 legs +4 ducks=24 legs
4 legs × 4 buffaloes = 16 legs +8 ducks=24 legs
In first case total no of heads =9
In second case the total no of head=12
According to question
No of heads is less than 24÷2=12
So no of buffaloes in the group are =5 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- no of buffaloes in the group are 12.
- 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(2)
- 2(no. of heads)= 2 legs of ducks+buffaloes
remaining 24 = other 2 legs of buffaloes
hence 24/2= 12 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- 12...use simple equations

x=12 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(2)
- let bufaloes =x
ducks=y
24 + 2(x+y)=4x+2y
x=12. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- let no. of buff =x,duck=y.Now 2(x+y)+24=4x+2y,On solving x=12.
- 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- let no. of buffaloes be x & no. of ducks be y
buffaloes have 4 legs while ducks have 2
So,the equation stands
4x + 2y = 2*(x + y) + 24
or,4x + 2y - 2x - 2y = 24
or, x = 12
number of buffaloes = 12 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- what about ducks?
