  so total angel covered by the hour hand is=240+8.88=248.88 degree
  In case of the minute hand
  360 degrees are covered in 90 minutes
  
  so in 1 min= 360/90=4 degree is covered.
  so 40 min= 40*4= 160 degree
  the angle covered by the hour hand is= 248.88 degre
  and the angle covered by minute hand is = 160 degree
  so the angle between the hands = 248.88-160 = 88.88 or 89 degre

  where H - hours
  M - minutes
  so according to above quesn
  H =12
  M =40
