Algebra
Find two consecutive even integers such that the square of the second, decreased by twice the first, is 52.
Read Solution (Total 2)
-
- Let x, (x+2) be the 2 even integers
(x+2)^2 - 2x = 52
x^2 + 4 + 4x - 2x - 52 = 0
x^2 + 2x - 48 = 0
(x+8) (x-6) = 0
x=-8 or x=6
if x=6, x+2=8
If x=-8, x+2=-6
So the 2 integers are 6,8 or -8,-6

- let integers be x & x+2,
a/q,
(x+2)^2 - 2x =52
=> x^2+2x-48=0
=>x= -8 & x=6
thus no are -8,-6 and 6,8 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
