Numerical Ability
the contents of a certain box consists of 14 apples and 23 oranges. how many oranges must be removed from the box so that 70% of the pieces of fruit in the box will be apples?
Read Solution (Total 2)
-
- Total no. of fruits = 14+23 = 37
% of apples = 14/37 * 100 = 37.84%
To get 70% apples => 14/x*100 = 70%
x=20
So total no. of fruits should be 20 to get 70% apples
So no. of oranges 14+x = 20
x = 6
no. of oranges removed should be 23-6 = 17

- 14 apples and 23 orange in box. we need 70%of apple mean remaining 30% be orange that mean 7/3 ratio after removal of oranges. let x be number of orange remove from the box therefor:-
14/23-x = 7/3
42 = 161 - 7x
7x = 119
x = 17
hence 17 orange will be remove from the box. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
