Missing Character
A question and three statements are given followed by four options you have to go decide which of the following statements is/or necessary to answer the question..
stan the stationer buys two variety of pencils at 20$ a dozen and 30$ a dozen and sells them what is the profit he makes
statement 1: he buys a total of 10 dozen pencils.
statement 2: stan buys the same no. of pencils of either variety.
statement 3: he sold the pencils at 28$ a dozen.
Option
a) statement 1 and 2
b) statement 2 and 3
c) statement 1 and 3
d) statement 2 and 3 or statement 1 and 3
Read Solution (Total 7)
-
- statement 2 & 3 is sufficient because ... let stan purchased X number of pencils .. so (20x)+(30x)=50x is the cost price
And selling price is 28*(2x)=56x..
now we can calaulate profit percentage by ...(6x/50x)*100
so(b)...i think 1 & 3 is not giving the profit is there or not... because 1 only explains the total number of pencil not how much from both types

- Ans:c
Suppose Stan buys a dozen of pencil of each variety
So,Cost price,20a+30a=50a
Selling Price 28*2a=56a
total profit percentage is ((56a-50a)/50a)*100=12%
The percentage is same for 10 dozen also..
but if you want to calculate percentage of profit Ans will be Option:d
but if you want to calculate amount of profit Ans will be Option:c - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(11)
- Ans:a
Suppose Stan buys a dozen of pencil of each variety
So,Cost price,20a+30a=50a
Selling Price 28*2a=56a
total profit percentage is ((56a-50a)/50a)*100=12%
The percentage is same for 10 dozen also..
but if you want to calculate amount of profit Ans will be Option:a - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(17)
- d because to find profit we need both cp and sp
- 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(2)
- option c is correct
- 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)
- option c is incorrect
costprice=20x+30y
x+y=10
selling price=28*10=280
bcoz we dont know values of x & y
by usng 2 & 3 we can able to calculate profit % but not profit so 1,2,3 r required according to me

- 10 dozen pencil can just increase the profit number where statement 3 states d actual profit by calculation. where statement 2 says same no of pencil which is already given in problem statement. so statement one and three shows
