Mother,her daughter and her grand child weighs 120 kg. daughter and her daughter(child) weighs 60 kg. child is 1/5th of her grand mother. What is the age of the daughter?

• mother + daughter + child = 120kg
  daughter + child = 60kg
  mother = 120 - 60 = 60kg
  child = 1/5th of mother = (1/5)*60 = 12kg
  So now daughter = 120 -(mother + child) = 120 - (60+12) = 48kg

• How will you find the age of the daughter from their weights..? They asked to find out the age of the daughter not the weight.. I think, it may be a dummy question or data insufficient one..

  by solving m=60
  g.da age=60/5=12
  d=60-12=48

  Mother=X
  Daughter=Y
  Grand Child=Z
  Given X+Y+Z=120 [first statement]
  Y+Z= 60 [second statement] so here we get X=60 ---(i)
  Z=(1/5)x(X)
  =12 ---- (ii)
  therfore 60+Y+12=120
  Y=120-72
  Y=48 (where Y is the weight of Daughter)

  M+60=120
  M=60
  given that G=M/5
  SO G=60/5=12
  D=60-12=48KGS

• It is not the age of the daughter. It is the weight of the daughter.
  So
  m+d+g=120 kg
  d+g = 60 kg
  So m = 60 kg
  g = (1/5)*60 = 12 kg
  Then 60+12+d = 120
  d = 48 kg
