- It should be 34...?
- 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(13) No(2)
- the answer may be 34.2
if we consider the 2d image then the ladder , the wall and base making a triangle ,which height =80 foot
now we have to calculate the largest square inside the triangle.
let x be the side of square.
then,there are two triange of one height=x ,base=(60-x) and the other of height=(80-x) and base=x and a squre
by condition
(60-x)*x/2+x*(80-x)/2+x^2=80*60/2
x=34.2
am i correct? - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(12) No(1)
- Let the angle between ladder and Horizontal be A, and side of cuboid be s
First find the wall height i.e, 80ft (because we need to find tanA)
tanA=80/60=4/3.........(1)
Now, tanA=s/60-s
4/3=s/60-s
s=34.2 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(10) No(0)
- we can calculate the height of the given triangle,which is formed by the wall and ladder,USING PYTHAGORUS theorem as....
height=(100^2)-(60^2)= 80
now as the cube will be having one of its vertices on the wall..and another one on the Ladder.So Logically,the longest edge of such cube will be obtained only by a line joining the mid points of wall as well as ladder. so as mid point of wall is 80/2 = 40..so side of the resultant cube will be 40!!
i hope u will understand this after reading it twice or thrice ..use a diagram also. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(2)

- by using pythagoras theorem we get height = 80, now the largest cube that can be placed inside the triangle must have side = hb/(h+b)
we get 4800/140 =34.2
....where h is the height of triangle and b is the base. - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- it is dummy question asked in tcs. do not attempt such question because the answer should be 49m. and it is not in options. Attempting such questions will suggest that you are guessing and you are liable to rejection.
